February 2010

In February 2010, three firefighters from Denver International Airport in Colorado and i traveled to Cambodia for a week of training to teach about 100 firefighters at the ONE fire station in Phnom Penh, the capital of 1.8 million, and the airports in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap. The trainings consisted of a tactical response to a plane crash at DIA in December 2008 with staging and operations with various scenarios, basic hazaradous materials response and basic structural firefighting skills. The firefighters were eager to learn the material, proud to receive their certificates upon completion of the courses and look forward to our return in 2011 for more training. This trip was significant in the sense that training is a component i have always wanted to do on this scale with firefighters with a combined 80 plus years experience. a heartfelt thanks to Doug Mangles, Jerome Fleming and Robert Casey.
